Beside/ Besides

• Beside = next to = at the side of = bên cạnh

Come and sit here beside me.

• Besides = in addition to/ also: ngoài ra, thêm vào đó.

Do you play any other sports besides basketball?

Cause/ Reason

• Cause: nguyên nhân sâu xa, nguồn gốc của sự việc.

The police are still trying to establish the cause of the fire

• Reason: lí do đưa ra để giải thích cho việc gì đó.

The reason I walked out was that I was bored. 

Certificate/ Diploma/ Licence

A birth/ marriage/ death certificate

• Certificate: giấy chứng nhận (một tài liệu chính thức xác nhận thông tin trên đó là đúng / giấy chứng nhận khi thi đậu).

She has a certificate in Drama education.

• Diploma: văn bằng (do trường cấp khi hoàn thành khóa học).

It’s hard to find a good job if you don’t have a high school diploma.

• License: giấy phép

He was given a license to reform the organization.

Changeable/ Flexible

• Changeable: hay thay đổi, thường xuyên thay đổi

The weather will be changeable with rain at times.

• Flexible: thay đổi (thế hiện tính linh hoạt, nhanh nhạy thay đổi theo tình huống).

You can save money if you are flexible about where your room is located. 

Clothes/ Cloth/ Clothing/ Costume

• Clothes: quần áo

She usually wears casual clothes.

• Cloth: vải

There’s milk on the floor over there – could you get a cloth and mop it up?

• Clothing: quần áo (loại quần áo đặc biệt được mặc trong các tình huống đặc biệt)

Protective clothing must be worn.

• Costume: quần áo đặc trưng của một quốc gia/ một giai đoạn lịch sử…) / quần áo hóa trang

The Ao Dai is the national costume of Vietnam for women.

Miss Universe Philippines Gazini Ganados is the winner of the Miss Universe 2019 National Costume contest.
